The minimum wage increase in numbers

From 2025, the minimum wage will increase by 9% (to HUF 290,800), while the guaranteed minimum wage to be established in jobs requiring at least secondary education or secondary vocational training will increase by 7% (to HUF 348,800).

Based on the fact that approximately 220,000 people are on the minimum wage and almost 550,000 people earn more than the minimum wage, but not more than the guaranteed minimum wage, the total budget impact in 2025 will be almost HUF 100 billion.

The net salary after the minimum wage increases by 15,960 forints per month, while the net salary after the guaranteed minimum wage increases by 15,162 forints. The total public burden on the minimum wage will increase by HUF 11,160 per month; the public charges imposed on the guaranteed minimum wage will increase by HUF 10,602 per month.

Overall, the total employer cost per minimum wage also increases by 9%, HUF 27,120 per month, while this increase in the case of the total employer cost after the guaranteed minimum wage is HUF 25,764 per month (a 7% increase), which is already in the millions even for a staff of 50 per month.

By 2025, the government will still provide some help to those businesses whose employees earned less than HUF 290,800 in the past period, as they will have to pay the social contribution tax based on the 2024 figures in 2025.
